  • Volunteer Mentor Position

SGA Youth & Family Services is seeking mentors for the Kids Unlimited Mentoring Program servicing fourth through sixth grade students attending two elementary schools in Chicago’s Woodlawn community.

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Responsible to meet face-to-face with mentee’s for one hour per week at the mentee’s school
  • As the relationship develops, provide mentoring via the computer, called e-mentoring, once a week for an additional hour
  • Provide academic assistance, emotional support and enhance mentees’ social skills.
  • Create a structured and trusting relationship with assigned mentee by offering guidance, support and encouragement
  • Comply with SGA’s confidentiality agreement
  • Attends and participates in orientation and trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Must pass a background check
  • A one year commitment is desired

Must display sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in SGA’s service population.
