With a 105-year history of providing innovative, no cost, comprehensive services in the greater Chicago area, SGA continuously works to help children, families and communities who are facing great challenges to realize their potential. Our services are provided through four program areas, including Youth/Family, Youth Justice, Schools and Community. Services are provided throughout three regions in the greater Chicago area - West, South and City-Wide.
SGA provides services in multiple neighborhoods in the greater Chicago area’s West region. Over the last decade, the West region has experienced great growing pains as a primary new-immigrant destination, with dramatic increases in school drop-out, crime and poverty rates. As a leader in providing comprehensive support services in the region, SGA effectively provides multi-sector collaborative services in both English and Spanish.

On the greater Chicago area’s south side, SGA has been providing children, families and communities with the skills needed to realize their potential for over 25 years. While poverty, violence, unemployment, prisoner re-entry, poor health and low education attainment have plagued the region, SGA has provided services that give the people we serve a chance to acquire the skills needed to live healthy lives and become contributing members of their communities.
Through two specific initiatives – the Roseland Children’s Initiative and the Woodlawn Neighborhood Initiative (in partnership with the Preservation of Affordable Housing) – SGA has leveraged an array of public and private partnerships and collaborations to create long-term, sustainable change. Both initiatives specifically address the needs of people living within each community and provide the most comprehensive support and connections to additional services.

SGA provides services throughout a number of different communities that fall outside of our West and South regional services areas. Throughout each service area, SGA collaborates with major institutions and government entities, such as the Board of Education (Chicago Public Schools), the University of Chicago, The Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services to name a few. These collaborative efforts work to provide services that aim to positively affect the lives of individuals who are living in challenged communities-so they cannot only improve their own lives but improve the communities where they live.
