Annual Benefit “Building on Promise 2018”

Thank you to all who attended and sponsored our annual fundraising benefit, “Building on Promise!” On Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel we held our most successful Benefit to date, raising critical funds to provide life-changing services in Chicago’s most challenged and underserved neighborhoods.

The event included a cocktail reception with hors-d'oeuvres, delicious dinner and a keynote address with Dr. Kyle Pruett. An international authority on child and parent development, Pruett is a clinical professor of child psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center. His eye-opening talk focused on the impact of violence, poverty and toxic stress on infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Pruett also spoke to how positive parenting and involvement plays a role in helping children cope and advance.

Highlights of the event included a silent auction, and recognition to SGA’s 2018 honoree, Donald Belgrad, Chairman Emeritus of Schnadig International Corporation. The evening’s event also included a performance of original songs composed as part of the Lullaby Project, a partnership between SGA and the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) that pairs expectant and parenting teens with composers, singers, and musicians to create and record original lullabies for their young children. Last year, sixteen clients from SGA’s Early Advantage Program collaborated with the CSO to write a personal lullaby for their child.

In recognition of a former SGA beneficiary, the prestigious Joseph Pedott Leadership Award was presented to Brenda Joseph who shows resilience and leadership in overcoming personal challenges. Joseph Pedott, the founder of the Chia Pet and The Clapper, ran away from his Chicago home as a teen. He turned to SGA for financial support and counseling, and with assistance attended the University of Illinois.

Thanks for being a friend to SGA! Our entire team and the families we serve appreciate your support.
